Eight ambitious women shortlisted for Meat Business Women’s One to Watch prize 2023

One to Watch recognises and celebrates young, ambitious women who are making their mark in the meat industry

From over fifty applications, eight outstanding young women have been shortlisted for this year’s One to Watch Award, Meat Business Women’s development prize for young women in the meat industry.

All eight finalists will now be interviewed by a panel of experts, with the winner announced at the Meat Business Women award lunch and panel event on Thursday 5th October at Hilton City Leeds. The winner will receive £4,000, helping her to invest in her personal and professional growth.

The independent judges for this year’s awards are: Margaret Boanas, chair of the International Meat Trade Association; Jamila Gordon, CEO Lumachain; Lucianne Allen, director at Aubrey Allen and Sean Deane, Market Specialist, Bord Bia.

Margaret Boanas, head judge extends her gratitude to all applicants saying

“Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to apply. It was a privilege to review the applications and remind ourselves just how much talent we have in our industry. We have seen more applications than ever this year, with the breadth and diversity of talent clear to see across the entire supply chain. Applications were received from butchery, HR, communications, veterinary, product development, processing, commercial and marketing and other fields.”

“The enthusiasm, energy and commitment for our industry really shone through, and it was a very difficult to narrow down a top eight. Congratulations to those who were shortlisted.”

All applicants will receive personalised feedback and recommendations from the judges on their application.

All shortlisted applicants will receive a place at the awards lunch and networking event on 5th October 2023.

This year’s prize fund has been supported by Lumachain.

The prize, developed by Meat Business Women is now in its fifth year and seen previous winners from the likes of Cranswick plc, ABP Ireland, Marks & Spencer and Morrisons amongst other organisations.

Previous One to Watch winners have used their prize fund for a range of personal development initiatives, including undertaking leadership courses, technical qualifications as well as setting up an NPD initiative for students to develop a new product for supermarket shelves.
