Fuelled By Ambition...Jade Brewer

We caught up with one of our incredible members Jade Brewer, Head of Business, Protein Optimise & Procurement at Foods Connected to get to know more about her career journey and ambitions for the food industry. As part of our campaign 'Fuelled by Ambition' we're sharing the stories of our community and asking them to define ambition in their own terms, as well as give us as insights into their career journeys so far.

Please share your current role with us and tell us more about your career journey so far.

I’ve recently started a new role as Head of Business, Protein Optimise & Procurement at Foods Connected, having previously worked as Senior Account Manager at Danish Crown. My journey into the meat industry began 2015 when I started as an account manager at 2 Sisters Red Meat and subsequently at Kepak. Over this time, I developed a love for how quality products reach customers and the complexities of supply and demand within the sector, from farm to fork. This passion led me through roles in both commercial and category, ultimately shaping my expertise within the red meat sector. Each step has taught me valuable lessons about the importance of collaboration and innovation in meeting both customer expectations and business goals. I’m really excited to put my knowledge and skills from direct food supply into my new role at Foods Connected

What would you say your top strength or superpower is and how has it helped you in your role?

I’d say my top strength is problem-solving and business collaboration — especially when it comes to complex supply chain challenges. Being able to analyse data, identify opportunities, and collaborate with cross-functional teams has helped me deliver practical solutions which has helped me build trust with stakeholders by demonstrating reliability and adaptability under pressure.

Tell us about one of the biggest challenges to date in your career and one key learning you took from it?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was, as I can imagine would be a common answer, the Covid pandemic. Overnight our team was working from home, learning how to collaborate virtually to still deliver product to our customers and the UK consumers. The experience taught me the critical importance of clear communication and contingency planning. It reinforced that staying calm, transparent, and proactive can turn even difficult situations into opportunities for stronger partnerships and growth.

Who do you look to as a role model and why?

I have worked with some incredible females during my career in the meat industry who have shown resilience, strength and determination and always encouraged me to believe in myself. Luckily these female mentors in our industry are increasing in number which is fantastic! I am a true believer in ‘if you can see it you can be it’

Our campaign this year is called ‘Fuelled By Ambition’ where we'll celebrate everyone's ambitions, no matter how big or small they are. What does ambition look like to you?

Ambition, to me, is the drive to continuously improve—both personally and professionally—while staying curious and open to learning. It’s about setting goals that push boundaries but also align with values, so progress feels meaningful. Whether it’s innovating within the meat industry or mentoring colleagues, ambition fuels the energy to make a positive difference. Outside of my professional world, it also means showing my daughter that she can achieve anything she wants, by showing her commitment and dedication I aim to bring to my work.

What would an ambitious future for the meat industry look like?

An ambitious future for the meat industry would balance sustainability with quality and security of supply. It would embrace innovations in animal welfare, environmental impact reduction, and supply chain transparency, while still celebrating the rich heritage and craftsmanship behind meat production. Ultimately, it’s about meeting consumer demands responsibly and ensuring long-term viability for producers and communities.
